Ghimbav

Ghimbav – town located 10 km from Brașov, documented in 1342, the year in which it was probably founded by German settlers. Over the years, Ghimbavul was many times seriously damaged: in 1422 and 1658 by Turkish invasions, in 1469 and 1586 by fire disasters, in 1599 by the troops of ruler Michael the Brave, in 1602 by soldiers of the Habsburg troops of to Gheorghe Basta and in 1611 by the prince of Transylvania, Gabriel Báthory. After the devastation and depopulation of 1422, King Sigismund of Luxembourg waived taxes for ten years to encourage the population of the settlement.
